Description

The best warmth-to-weight of any Patagonia jacket

Patagonia says the Micro Puff Hoody has the best warmth-to-weight ratio of any jacket they've ever made. And at risk of stating the obvious, they've made a LOT of jackets. It's also their most compressible synthetic jacket – ideal for cold and damp conditions where a conventional down jacket might not perform so well. The secret is in the lightweight PlumaFill recycled polyester insulation that mimics the structure of down, and in a clever quilted construction that optimises the way it puffs up, even when wet. On the outside, you've got an ultralight Pertex Quantum ripstop shell fabric made from recycled fishing nets, with a durable water repellent (DWR) coating that's free from harmful chemicals. Elastic cuffs and an adjustable hem keep draughts at bay, while the hood is designed to fit under a helmet. The whole thing packs down neatly into its own left-hand pocket, so it'll always be ready for action at the top of your pack.

    • 65g PlumaFill recycled polyester insulation replicates the structure of down in a continuous synthetic insulation material
    • Innovative quilting construction maximises the loft of the PlumaFill strands with minimal stitching
    • Pertex® Quantum 0.8-oz 10-denier shell features NetPlus® recycled nylon ripstop made from recycled fishing nets
    • PFC/PFA-free durable water repellent (DWR) finish

    • Recycled Materials: this garment is made from recycled polyester and recycled nylon
    • Ethically Sourced Materials: The RDS certifies down against animal welfare requirements and tracks it from the source to the final product. The purchase of RDS certified products demonstrates demand for better animal welfare practices in the down and feather supply chain. Sea to Summit is certified to the RDS.
    • Eco certified: made with bluesign® approved fabrics

  • Patagonia is the brand that other gear companies want to be when they grow up. In 2022, the company's founder, Yvon Chouinard, famously gave the company to the planet. It’s now jointly controlled by a charitable trust and a not-for-profit dedicated to fighting the climate crisis, and all post-operating profits go to environmental causes.

But in some ways that’s the tip of the (melting) iceberg. For nearly half a century, Patagonia has been an experiment in responsible business. From the farms that grow their cotton to the factories that make their goods and everything in-between, they’ve tried incredibly hard to set the gold standard in terms of ethics, transparency and social responsibility. Not only that, but their gear is made to last – to take hard use and repairs, and to maintain its performance through thick and thin.

All of which is even more extraordinary when you consider that Yvon Chouinard started out blacksmithing climbing gear for his mates in his parents' backyard, using a forge and anvil that he bought from a junkyard.

At WildBounds we don’t usually tend to go for the big-name brands, but this was one we simply couldn’t resist. Quite apart from their amazing ethical and environmental credentials, they just make great gear. We’ve used it and loved it for years, and you will too.

Its been through light rain and wind and kept me warm and dry.
